FASHION FLASHBACK: SAINT LAURENT FALL/WINTER 2020

I realize that we usually (especially in the fashion world) focus on current events, those that are upcoming or have just taken place.

However, I want to take a step back and revisit Saint Laurent's Fall/Winter 2020 collection by Anthony Vaccarello.

In my opinion, the designer once again proved that the brand is a beautiful blend of boldness, elegance, and sensuality.

The Wild '80s

From the very first moment the models appeared on the runway, the atmosphere of the '80s was palpable.

Wide shoulders, narrow waists, and bold lines — all of these clearly referenced the fashion of that decade.

However, Vaccarello didn’t just recreate the past styles.

Instead, he reinterpreted them, infusing them with a modern, minimalist touch.

The dominant colors on the runway — deep black, navy, intense red, and purple — perfectly captured the chic yet edgy essence of Saint Laurent.

Latex Above All

The material that undoubtedly dominated this show was… latex.

Is it a good idea?

Yes.

Can it be used in a stylish way?

Absolutely.

Vaccarello boldly introduced this, admittedly controversial, fabric into the collection, creating tops, pants, and dresses, then pairing them with classic wardrobe elements, resulting in an intriguing and unconventional ensemble.

Furs and Coats: A Touch of Luxury

When it comes to a fall/winter collection, furs and coats are a must.

They provide a counterbalance to the shiny latex on one hand, while on the other, they maintain a strong character, together shaping the silhouette of a confident, modern, and sensual woman.

Moreover, they were paired with more minimalist details, creating a composition that was both full of contrasts and harmoniously balanced.

Essence of Femininity

In summarizing this exceptional show, it’s impossible not to notice how Vaccarello captured the essence of femininity — bold, strong, yet simultaneously delicate.

Saint Laurent has once again proven that it is a brand that not only sets trends but also dares to experiment while staying true to its roots.

Fashion is more than just clothing — it’s a form of self-expression, and this show is a powerful testament to that.

And what are your thoughts on this collection?

Did the bold combinations of materials and '80s inspirations appeal to you?

Perhaps you’re planning to draw inspiration from them in the upcoming season as well?

Let me know in the comments!

J.
